FRUŠKA GORA

Following footsteps of Roman emperors

Several famous emperors were born in Sremska Mitrovica (ancient Sirmium), the former capital of the Roman Empire. One of them was Probus (Marcus Aurelius Probus), who planted the first vine on Fruška Gora.

The paths used by those Roman emperors criss-crossed this mountain, a former island in the Pannonian Sea. Today, they connect dozens of modern wineries and distilleries, a renovated wine cellar in Iriga, the Chapel of Peace in Sremski Karlovci and numerous cultural and historical monuments that we visit on this wine route.

Fruškogorje winemakers proudly talk about their bermet, grašac, portugizer…

One-day and two-day wine tours are organized.
