HER MAJESTY
THE BOOK
The first books in the field of winemaking, viticulture, cellaring and agriculture i.e. . farming, marked the beginning of a real wine revolution in the territory of today’s Serbia.
It started with the books of Zaharije Orfelin and Prokopije Bolić at the end of the 18th and the beginning of the 19th century. Soon there were books by a large number of authors, including Jovan Živković, Branko Ilić, Dimitrije Mita Petrović, Milutin Stojanović, Božidar Ranković and others. They found their place on the shelves of faculty libraries, professional schools, oenological stations, vine nurseries, cooperatives…









Books from the era of the kingdom

Ebulioscope
an instrument from the second half of the 19th century that was used to determine the alcohol content in wine, i.e. in liquid.
By the decrees of the then rulers from 1851. and 1852. . there was a reform within the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the independence of the Economic Department. Atanasije Nikolić was appointed head of the department.
The independence of that department provided far greater opportunities for the improvement of agriculture itself, and thus accelerated the establishment of significant agricultural institutions.
The first one to be founded was the Agricultural School in Topčider, by decree from the very beginning in 1853. . There was a boarding school within the school, and the first students were state cadets. In addition to them, students from all over the country had the right to enroll, one from each section, who had to pay their own school fees.
It was the first lower agricultural school in Serbia and it worked until 1859. .

Upon completion of his doctoral studies in Vienna in 1867. . Đorđe Radić became the first doctor of agricultural sciences in Serbia.
